Palin Isn't Good For The GOP
Feb 8, 2010
Let's all face facts, even, you, the Palin apologizer (the Katie Couric interview was down right terrible)--Sarah Palin isn't good news for the GOP.
If you have failed to remember, the GOP hierarchy pissed off the American people just in time for the 2006 and 2008 elections. They spent, acted, and were no different than Democrats. Under the watch of Bush and Delay, the federal government ballooned in size. In my own estimations the GOP was at death's door because it departed from core conservative principles.
There was very little that could be done to regain the trust of the American people--because the Republicans didn't deserve our trust.
As the '08 elections took place, a movement began to rise largely because of the enthusiasm behind Palin. Whether you're a fan or not, she created an enthusiasm behind a campaign and a candidate that was deader than a door nail. Yes, we can argue about semantics of the Tea Party, but I doubt it would be where it is today without her.
America now has the ability to stop people from moving over to the Democratic leftist ideas that would doom America to socialism. America now has the ability to affectively create a transparent government because of the fact that Palin and the Tea Party movement have shoved their way onto the political scene.
However, no matter how good this is for America and conservative beliefs, it is not something the GOP is thrilled about. It is imperative that we remember--many of the current GOP senators and congressmen are the same people who sold us down the river just a few years back.
The Tea Party movement should not stop at Democrats. It has to pursue anyone, R, I, or D, who seeks to abandon liberty for tyranny. I believe Palin will go after those within her own party just as she did in Alaska. She might not be right for the presidency in 2012. She may not ever hold public office again, but she will be a voice for the conservative base. This is the very reason I believe Palin isn't good for the current GOP.

It is fundamentally true that Palin is not good for the GOP as it stands this moment. However, the reason is that the GOP has become just as progressive as the Democrats. What we have here are two major parties - both of which continue to grow government's role. The difference between the GOP and Dems is government's growth within the Obama administration is larger than all the presidents put together since JFK. And I believe that if McCain were elected president, we'd have this same problem - just not as big.
My point here is that the Tea Party movement is looking not only for the GOP to accept them, but also for the GOP to accept the true conservative views of the Tea Party. The GOP likes to brag about being Reagan conservatives; they're anything but! What Palin represents is the hardcore conservative and constitutionalism that the GOP totally forgot - small role in government, less taxes, and empowerment of the human being.
I'd like for Sarah Palin to be one that inspires the movement - not to lead it. No one should lead the movement, which is the problem when it comes to the movement's longevity. And that's why it is vital that the GOP buy into the movement's beliefs, as the movement needs the infrastructure of a big party like the GOP in order to survive.
In short, Palin is good for America. The GOP isn't good for America. However, the GOP returning to true conservative values, and believe in the constitution - and having Palin inspiring this convergence - all that would be great for America.
One of the best and most reasoned posts I have seen on Sarah Palin I have seen about her role in current political environment. Well done sir!!!
@groinksan great points. I would agree she needs to be inspiration for the cause and more or less the voice as of now.
@T.LaDuke Thanks.
While I agree that Palin probably shouldn't run for president in 2012, I'd not be adverse to the idea of seeing her in congress or the senate. And, contrary to the author's opinion in this article, I actually think she's good for the party. She embraces core GOP values, which sadly, the GOP has not. She's valuable to the party in the public arena.
Though I wasn't, and am not, head over heels crazy over her as some are, I believe the party needs her.
@Nancy I think it is important to note my last line "Palin isn't good for the current GOP." I agree with you fully. I think it is important for the GOP to have someone who will call them out on the hypocrisy.
Well put, Eric.
WIth that headline I thought you were about to go all Newsweek on us :-)
I'll take your last statement a step further. For the same reasons Palin isn't good for the current GOP, I think she is will ultimately have a very positive impact on the GOP and help bring the party back to its conservative roots.
Eric, your writing talent has improved so much since you first started the website. Very well done, I am impressed.
Yea, GOP get on board! I'm not saying Palin is my Presidential nominee yet but at least she's fighting. I like how the Republicans are resisting but she's throwing blows! Republicans need to drop their progressive leanings as of late and get with the conservative movement. I don't want a warmed over democrat.
Scott Brown's victory is great! Massachusetts single handedly pulled us out of the abyss now run with it! Get Conservative, not less progressive. Get back to Reagan: less government not more, less spending not more, no excuses!
I want my LIBERTY BACK!
Sarah Palin IS GOOD for the Republican Party. She is one of the few REAL Conservatives within the party and she cares about and stands up for the principles championed by our Founding Fathers. She is the Conservative voice that has garnered MILLIONS of supporters from every inch of America. She IS the Republican Party - she is strong and knows what America and Americans need to get out of the mess that is being smothered by Barack Obama and the Congress.
Again... Sarah Palin IS GOOD for the REPUBLICAN PARTY. And every knock against her won't damage her but make her MUCH STRONGER. Her support will never die out, it will only become more fierce.
I have to say I think she is good for the GOP, because she is helping to create NEW GOP candidates. The old progressive GOP is going to die, which, is good. Also I love the use of the word inspire. After watching her Q & A at the Tea Party, I have come to realize she may never be a polished politician, and that may add to her value. Maybe her role in American politics will be to inspire the Tea Party to stand up, speak out and elect politicians who defend the Constitution. Many people in the history of this country, who were not elected representatives, have done much to inspire others and change the direction of this country. You don't need to hold office to change the nation in a positive direction.
She supports MCCAIN, a progressive---this has led to me jumping ship.
Hey, maybe the GOP ought to stop lying and then the
Take a look at how effective Michael Steele is... he's calling people racists... and sounds so much like a Democrat these days.. I'm sick of his wine..ing...
As for the GOP.. when they stop lying and start being the GOP again, maybe they will be more in line with the people, WHO ARE BY THE WAY IN LINE WITH SARAH PALIN.. your article is a lie
